Our Story
Small beginnings. Shared purpose.
The name Smunicent comes from the Amharic word for a quarter, the small 25-cent coin in Ethiopia. It represents humble beginnings and reminds us that something small can still carry meaning, value, and possibility.
For the founder, that meaning began early. At just eight years old, his first business revenue was a single Smunicent coin. It was a small start, but it became a lasting lesson about hard work, patience, and the belief that growth often begins with one simple step.
Years later, after arriving in the United States, he experienced how difficult it can be to find real opportunities without a trusted place to access reliable information. Support existed within the community, but it was often scattered across personal connections, social media, and small groups.
Smunicent was created to close that gap. It carries the same belief as that first small coin: one connection, one shared opportunity, or one act of support can grow into something meaningful for the Habesha community, city by city.
